Speculation has it that Microsoft will more than likely announce details regarding the highly anticipated Zune phones at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona later this month, after references to the phones were found in the recent Zune software update.
Numerous rumours about the Zune mobiles have been floating around the web ever since images of the phone were leaked and Zune HD was released last year, although the legitimacy of the photos has been questioned.
Last October a spokesperson for Microsoft’s TV, Video and Music business confirmed that the next step for Zune, a portable media player and entertainment platform, would be “to target mobile phones.”
According to speculation, two models entitled Turtle and Pure are to be released under the Zune line, although nothing has been confirmed.
What makes the Zune phones interesting is the fact that they would be powered by Windows Mobile 7 – making them the first devices using that operating system while having full Zune compatibility.
