RIM which is the producer of the popular BlackBerry phones ranked second in 2009 in the mobile phone operating systems market. RIM accumulated 20.8 percent of the total market for mobilesoftware.
With the smartphones devices gaining popularity, Microsoft will soon announce the launch of a new software operating system for mobile devices.
The market leader according to Canalys was Symbian which is the operating system used on Nokia phones and the company had close to 50% of the market as it garnered an impressive 47.2%.
As for third place, the honour went to the iPhone produced by Apple which got just over 15% of the market for the systems for mobile phones.
